Echoes of Maybe

– Eliza Venuh

We’re stuck in this endless cycle of almosts,

forever teetering between something and nothing.

In the dead of night, 2am, your thoughts envelop me,

and I’m lost in the vast expanse,

searching for a glimpse of you.

All I crave is your comfort,

your reassurance.

Console me, and I’ll vanish into thin air,

leaving no trace.

This virtual dance,

waiting for texts and calls,

has lost its allure.

I yearn for something tangible,

something real.

You speak of holding me close,

of making this connection physical.

My heart aches with longing,

and I’m tempted to make it happen.

But your words,

they hold me back –

like a slow-acting poison

that seeps into my veins,

spreading to my bones.

It’s a bittersweet torment,

never quite consuming me,

but leaving me with a haunting whisper of maybe

that refuses to fade.

Each time you slip away,

I’m left with the ache of longing,

and the hope that maybe,

just maybe,

we’ll find our way back to each other.
