– Bonbon Newmai

In this illustrated meditation, Bonbon peers into the quiet chaos of existence, asking questions many of us spend our lives trying to ignore. Why do we die? Is death an independent force, or simply the shadow cast by life itself?

Through a series of stark, contemplative panels, the piece explores the absurdity of human striving, stacked high against the inevitability of death. If we’re all destined to leave it behind, what is the meaning of all we chase?

Bonbon doesn’t offer answers, but instead invites us to pause in the in-between: where purpose, doubt, and mortality collide.

CONTRIBUTOR SPOTLIGHT

Bonbon Newmai is an undergrad student at Norman Putsure College in Chumoukedima, India. A curious soul with a love for all kinds of art, Bonbon enjoys experimenting-never quite settling on one form, but letting words and visuals meet somewhere in the middle. Much of her work is shaped by late-night thoughts about existence, purpose, and the strange comfort that comes with knowing everything, including life, is temporary. She does not claim to be a skilled writer or artist, but this piece is her honest attempt to make sense of it all and maybe, help someone else feel a little less alone in the process.
